Sunday vendor events in Eastlake benefit End 68 Hours of Hunger 
The city of Eastlake‘s monthly vendor events, which support End 68 Hours of Hunger, have officially kicked off, with the first one taking place on April 18.
With Mother’s Day coming up, vendors will have holiday-themed booths on May 2 and will offer gifts for mothers in the community, said Judy Moran, Eastlake’s administrative assistant to the mayor and the fire chief. Currently, 70 vendors are expected, she said, making May 2 fully booked.
End 68 Hours of Hunger refers to the approximate number of hours that some school children go between the free lunch they receive in school on a Friday and the free breakfast they receive in school the following Monday, according to the nonprofit.
When Moran was at North High School last year, she learned that 50% of the students there were on free or reduced lunches.
“That’s right here in Lake County — one of the wealthiest counties in the state. It’s heartbreaking that this is happening,” Moran said.
Last year, the nonprofit raised more than $5,000 and carloads of food over the course of a couple of months.
“It’s been really good,” Moran said. “They do a raffle at the Sunday market. Each vendor donates a small basket, they put those out on display and they sell tickets for that just to get people on board to have the same mission, and to want to do what they can for this one group who feeds the kids of our county.”
The vendor events will take place at what used to be the E-Pal Center, which is now the Senior Center, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Future dates for this year are June 6, July 11, Aug. 8, Sept. 19 and Oct. 24.
The city is still accepting vendors for the outdoor market and future Sunday vendor markets. Interested parties may call Moran at 440-951-2200 ext. 1001.
